Hi,
If you are getting a seg fault then something is seriously wrong, it is not a problem with incorrect timing. I have used asyn with serial devices that are sending data very quickly.
What type of serial port are you using (TCP/IP terminal server, local serial port on Linux box, etc.)?
Have you run gdb to see where the seq fault is happening? Is it in the driver, the device support, etc.?
Mark

Subject: high data rate with Asyn
We have been working on writing an IOC on a Linux running EPICS
3.14.8.2 and Asyn 4-4 the last few days trying to connect to an RS-422
serial device that sends out signal 4 times a second. The device is a
home made device, but it sends out ASCII character to its serial port.
While we have no problem reading the ASCII values in the terminal
emulation program, we are having a problem trying to read the stringin
under EPICS. It reads about a second or two, then, we get
segmentation fault. We have adjusted the scan rate and time-out
values in the device support, but we can't seem to get this right.
Does any body have an idea how to deal with this??
