Subject: VDCT survey results

At the EPICS meeting last week I distributed a survey about VDCT usage.
Here is a summary of the results:

No of projects who responded: 9
No of EPICS developers on these projects: 72
Percentage using VDCT: 51%

Other tools used: vi, emacs, CapFast, nedit, other text editors

Reasons given for not using VDCT:

- Complaints about display issues and graphical representation
- Some databases are small and simple and so it is quicker to modify
them in a text editor
- Legacy of CapFast databases
- Hesitance to take up VDCT due to bugs in the first couple of releases
- Printing problems
- Lack of good documentation and learning materials

Many thanks to all of you who participated in the survey and gave me
feedback about VDCT. We are still looking for labs to contribute to a
VDCT development and support contract, so if you are interested please
contact me at [email protected] for more information. We plan
to use the funding to solve the above kinds of problems and make VDCT a
much more usable and powerful tool.

Cheers,
Emma
