first turn was achieved in the Storage Ring at the Australian Synchrotron.
Full energy electrons (3 GeV) were extracted from the Booster Ring, passed
through the Booster to Storage Ring Transfer Line and injected into the Storage
Ring. Three hours later 4 turns were observed following tuning of the
quadrupole magnets.
The next stage will
be to continue the process of tuning the timing system, magnets and other
parameters until tens of turns are achieved and then switching on the RF System
to store the beam.
The control system for
the synchrotron is almost completely based on EPICS, and the Controls
Team would like to thank all those in the EPICS community who have
given their time, advice and code in contributing to this
success.
