Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Hi All,
Lately, many of the e-mails I receive via tech-talk seem to contain
'strange characters', which get displayed correctly only after I
manually set their encoding to UTF-8. I checked a few of those mails
and found that they are all sent via Microsoft products and that they
do not contain an indication of their encoding in the 'Content-type:'
header field. Since I don't use Windows, I don't know if this is a
software bug or merely a (common) configuration error. In the latter
case, I would like to encourage all participants to set up their mail
clients so that people who don't use UTF-8 as standard encoding can
still easily read tech-talk traffic (i.e. without manually correcting
the decoding for each such message in their mail reader).
Thanks,
Ben
