Hi,

We are looking for a low cost high performance PPC-based IOC to replace
the MVME2100 in the future. At some point we need to be ready for the
EOL of the MVME2100.

I have discovered the MVME3100 and currently have it running under
vxWorks 6.2 and EPICS R3.14.8.2.

VxWorks (for Motorola MVME3100-1152 - MPC8540) version 6.2.

The MVME3100 is based on the E500 core. Are there any other users
moving to vxWorks 6.2?

I know WindRiver is expensive; so who will do an mv3100 RTEMS port? :)

I have run a set of performance tests from Marty's test suite
(performApp):
Processing 213,000 records/sec. That is twice the processing compared
to the MVME2100.

Of course, we will be running a lot more tests here and tweaking the BSP
as needed. For example, we have some applications that could use the
Signal Processing Engine (i.e. SPE support)

PS: WindRiver also offers a BSP for vxWorks 5.5.1

The following is an excerpt from the BSP documentation:
===========================================================================
It consists of the
MPC8540 PowerQUICC III integrated processor with serial ATA, USB 2.0,
2eSST VMEbus interfaces, dual 64-bit/100MHz PMC sites, one flash bank
(with two boot blocks), dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet, one 10/100 Ethernet,
five serial ports, and a single SODIMM module.
The MVME3100 has its own transition board, but does not require one.
===========================================================================

I have the following:
=======================================================================
MVME3100-1152 667 MHz MPC8540 processor, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 64MB flash,
Gigabit Ethernet, SATA
=======================================================================

And the most beautiful things is the list price of $1450 :)

Thanks,
