A second message giving more details about the upcoming synApps workshop
at Diamond. If you are going to come, please let me know so I have an
idea of the numbers.
Title: EPICS synApps workshop on beamline controls - Part 2.
Details: Diamond Light Source will be holding a training course and
workshop on the synApps beamline control package and advanced beamline
interfacing issues from 20-22 February. The invited speaker will be Mark
Rivers, who has spent many years developing EPICS software on beamlines,
as well as being a senior scientist at the University of Chicago and the
Principal Investigator on the GSECARS beamlines at APS. The agenda is
given below, but within the three day constraint we will be flexible.
Location:
Most of the course will be held in the training room (Room 1.17) at
Diamond House, which is at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. The full

Agenda:
Monday 20 February: Introduction to asynDriver
10:00-12:00 Introduction. Writing a simple synchronous driver for
register access.
12:00-13:30 Lunch
13:30-17:00 Writing serial I/O and more complex asynchronous drivers.
19:00-21:00 Workshop dinner
Tuesday 21 February. Detectors and Feedback Software
09:00-12:00: Detectors. The Scalar and MCA record. Practical with
Canberra MCA and Caen Scalar cards.
13:30-17:00: 2 Dimensional detectors. Feedback software using the epid
record.
Wednesday 22 February. Interfacing to EPICS systems. Wrap-up
09:00-12:00: EPICS IOCs on Windows. Using IDL and Python with EPICS
14:00-15:00: Talk to a wider audience on experiences with the use of
EPICS on beamlines.
15:00-17:00: Workshop wrap-up. Any further questions.
Note that Mark will be staying on at Diamond on Thursday 23 February,
and may be available for some discussion. However, most of the time will
be spent working one on one with Diamond staff.
