		Hi Ian,
	It's depend from version of StripTool which you're using now.
In Argone web-page http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/extensions/StripTool
you can download Strip_Tool_2.5.10.0, which can display
.DESC-field in legend-panel (right part of main screen)
I.e.

- is descriptions from IOC

	This extension of StripTool was developed and used here (DESY)
since  1998.
And as far as I know, it's currently supported by Argone (Ken Evans) as
well.
