To anyone interested,
Not really a tech-talk topic, but I can’t resist the opportunity to brag a little. Starting Friday evening with 930 Mev beam at the end of the superconducting linac, the SNS team managed this weekend to bring that beam to the linac injection dump, then inject a few turns into the Ring and circulate those turns for a thousand orbits (!!) and then extract about ten turns into the extraction dump with a clear signal on a beam current monitor there. Suddenly the goal of beam on target in May seems achievable. Needless to say, the control system and EPICS – and our EPICS collaborators around the world – played a proud role in this accomplishment. Just ask if we’re happy!!
