Hi:

As far as I know, you cannot build EDM for windows & exceed
without some additional work.

EDM builds for Linux, Solaris, maybe some more Unixes
that include X11 and Motif/OpenMotif.
Unfortunately, the various Unixes are just different
enough so you need some compatibility layer to bridge
their differences.
EPICS R3.14 provides such an "OSI" layer for Unixes,
Win32, Mac OS X, ...
But EDM was written before R3.14, and it includes
its own compatibility layer (see edm/util/*),
which as far as I know does not yet include
Windows (cygnus, exceed) nor Mac OS X.

I think the plan for EDM is currently
not to add Win32 or Mac OS X or another
EDM-only compatibility layer
(but you're of course welcome to do that yourself),
nor is it to move to the R3.14 OSI layer
(whole nobody is of course prevented from doing that),
but instead to look at Qt,
which would give you support for 'real' MS Windows
without cygnus and exceed.

Subject: EDM on Windows + Hummingbird?

I've got EDM built on Linux and expect to build it on Solaris
any day now. One question I had was whether it can be built on
Windows as well if I'm using Hummingbird Exceed.

At the most recent EPICS collaboration meeting I seem to remember some
mention of this but can't recall the answer of the top of my head
and haven't come across any reference on tech-talk or the EDM site
in this regard. Maybe it was a question as to whether it could be
built using Cygwin rather than Hummingbird, I can't remember.

If it *is* possible, please do send along any pointers or suggestions
you might have. Thank you.
