Unfortunately, due mainly to time contraints, I wasn't able to find out exactly
what was causing my build error. The version of Linux we were using was giving
us some seemingly unrelated problems (for example, non functioning group
priveledges) and we concluded that it might be unstable and therefore
contributing to the build error. Due to this, we decided to format the
machine and install an earlier version of Linux (Linux kernel 2.6.11 SUSE 9.3
with gcc compiler 3.3.5, GNU Make 3.80 and Perl 5.8.6).
After this change, the build ran pretty smoothly (although the lcurses error
still appears :-s ) and I'm now able to use EPICS.
Apologies for not shedding any more light on the error.
Hopefully my problem was an exception!
