Pete,
we've been using TS5000 PC104s from technologic as EPICS IOCs. http://www.embeddedx86.com/
The TS5500, with 64MByte flash, 64MByte of RAM is sufficient for our applications. To date we only have a handful of applications, some serial, some use the on board ADCs/DIO and one uses a PC104 daughter card [S518 from sensoray: http://www.sensoray.com].

They come with Linux pre-loaded and drivers are available for the onboard ADC and DIO. If your linux desktop is compatible [gcc versions particularly], one can compile static on your desktop and copy the image to the flash.

Inaddition to Linux pre-loaded, technologic provides SSH, perl, samba, apache and other potentially useful linux applications.

Does anyone have any recommendations for or against any particular PC104
format single-board computer for use as a Linux IOC?

We are considering the Arcom boards (Viper, Vulcan) which run a
400/533MHz Intel XScale processor, and come with a Linux SDK. Is 64MB
RAM and 16MB flash likely to be enough to run EPICS?
