Can you tell us why you avoid using multidrop configuration when you use RS485 ?

We are using the Hytec 8516 octal serial IP card.
It can be configured for either RS422 or RS485.
It uses the same driver as the 8515 RS232 card.
I have tested the cards with very high baud rates,
but mostly we stick to 9600.
We have avoided using multidrop configurations.
