Jeff, hi.
I have couple comments
1. Browsible device hierarchy
Implies a name service upgrade for hierarchical names
Access security limited client browsing of public and private
device components????
Comments: I suppose I used similar feature in OPC. It seems very
interesting when you are clicking at first time. But it is not suitable
when you write normal client program.
2. Also your list has other items concerning client to server name
resolution, connection and so on. I see that in another vision ...
There is once write way to supply that. Control system must have
third player on network layer = DB. DB should hold information
concerning server (names and so on). After that we have
Server starts, takes his name (ip address, MAC address), go to
DB and takes information for initialization. After that server does
initialization.
Client starts, goes to DB, takes information concerning all
servers/systems/detectors, connects to server, ....
Anyone happy :)
3. Also I suppose that CA library have two interfaces. One interface is
network interface itself. It sends data and raw block memory. Another is
network interface with record features (=CA interface).
I will not refuse to have first interface as standard :)
Thanks, Andrei.

Subject: CA Wish List, and Essential Preexisting Features List
All,
There will be a preliminary meeting next week at the APS to
discuss
what goes into a future versions of EPICS. I have attached what
is
hopefully a comprehensive list of what *might* be added to
Channel
Access. I expect this list to be drastically reduced in size
after
the pruning shears are brought out.
Any time you can spare for comments is greatly appreciated.
Jeff
