Subject: Standalone Sequencer Program - Inactive Console

Hi EPICS gurus,

Maybe this is a question that has been asked previously, but I can't find
anything about it on tech-talk.

I am compiling a sequencer program as a standalone application using the
second of the two choices in the Makefile, e.g.

#####################################################
#The following builds sncExample as a standalone application
PROD_HOST += sncExample
sncExample_SNCFLAGS += +m
sncExample_SRCS += sncExample.stt
sncExample_LIBS += seq pv
sncExample_LIBS += $(EPICS_BASE_HOST_LIBS)
#####################################################

I am using RedHat Linux 9, Sequencer version 2.07 and EPICS 3.14.6.

The Sequencer Manual states in Section 4.2 "Unix Specific Instructions"
that after the program has been executed from the command line (by typing
"sncExample" in the above example) the console will remain active and a
number of sequencer commands (e.g. "all", "channels" etc) should become
available.

However, I have not been able to get the sequencer to respond to any
commands while it is running as a standalone application. In fact the
console is totally unresponsive and doesn't even respond to an <EOF> Ctrl-D
to exit from it. I am interested to know if there is something else I need
to do to gain access to the sequencer console, or is this functionality
which is just not available in Linux.

Thanks,

Steve Banks
