http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/modules/soft/asyn/ The release notes start with the statement APOLOGY: Many interfaces have changed since release 3-3. This is the reason this release is called 4-0. I would like to expand on this a little. If you are using the gpib support (devGpib and low level drivers) you should see almost no changes. If you are using asynManager then, except for an extra argument to report, all old method have exactly the same prototypes as before. You will, however, see new features. If you are using asynOctet then there are some changes. If you are using the register based interfaces and devEpics, which were introduced in release R3-3, then you will see major changes. Release 3-3 did come with a warning that the register based interfaces/devEpics was likely to undergo rapid evolution. This happened. We feel that the new interfaces/devEpics is more flexable, easier to implement, and easier to understand. With the addition of interrupt support asynDriver now has all the core components we have planned. Hopefully the interfaces will now undergo only minor rather than major evolution. Also see the Known Problems for things that we did not have time to implement for this release.
