We specify five areas of standardization. 1. Colors. The red/yellow/green use for alarm state is formalized. We set a standard screen panel color. Standard colors for input and readback fields and for graphs. EDM lets you name colors to make it easier for screen designers to pick the right shade of green or cyan. 2. Color coded title bars at the top of each screen tie the screen to a specific system or purpose. Nomenclature is in plain language as opposed to filenames or designators. 3. We set a maximum screen size based upon the monitor resolution in the control room. This prevents a screen designer from creating a screen too big to properly resolve in that environment. 4. Symbol library. Even more useful in edm that medm. We request designers use the symbol library symbol rather than creating their own. Improved symbols can always be added if they are that much better than an existing symbol. 5. Screen naming. Screen filenames follow a specific format, which include system, type and function. We then group screens in directories and subdirectories by system. Gurd, Pamela A. wrote: SNS has such a thing, created at the beginning of the project (by Steve Lewis, who was at Berkeley at the time) and somewhat ignored by later implementers, but it was a helpful beginning for a collaboration between labs. I'll send it to you.
