Ralph,

Have you talked to WRS about their enterprise licensing model? This allows you to use any target on any host architecture, plus there are a number of other goodies thrown in. The catch of course is the price. The yearly subscription is much more than the annual maintenance cost for a current license. If you have a number of target and/or host architectures then it might start to make sense. It might also make sense if you want to move to VxWorks 6.0 when it comes out.

We met with WRS this week and are starting to consider these issues. Unfortunately I can't make the collaboration meeting, but I'm sure this would be a good subject to discuss one evening.

As for the MVME2100, IIRC according to Motorola, the 32MB version is not going away anytime soon and the replacement on the road map I saw early last year was also based on the PPC603 core. This was nearly a year ago, perhaps someone has some more recent information?

John.

Hi all,

BESSY needs a decision on the BSPs to buy and use for Tornado 2.2
and later on.

For the high-end boards, we're quite sure about the MVME5500 series.

For the low-end workhorse boards (to replace our many MVME162s) we've
been playing with the MVME2100 series which have a board design and
price-performance ratio that are making them a really interesting
candidate.

One drawback is that - at least in Europe - WRS charges an extra
achitecture, not just a BSP.

Are there other good or bad experiences, info about Motorola's support
policy or rumours about these boards?
Which series should we have a look at also or instead?

Thanks a lot for your hints and feedback!!

Ralph
