Some target systems (e.g. vxWorks) offer functions that you can hook
into for a system shutdown and/or reboot. (E.g. Some VME cards that are
generating interrupts with a high frequency must be shut up for a reboot
else vxWorks will get into a "panic: workQ overflow" and never finish
booting.)
But you have to keep in mind that if you are using these features your
code will not be portable. And: the hooks might not be called under any
possible reboot condition, you might not have control over the order in
which hooks are called, etc. (This depends on your target system.)
