Hi Steve,

I understand also that to use these boards we will need to change our release of Tornado from 2.0.2, which we are currently using, to 2.2 or 2.2.1 and would be pleased to know other people's experiences with Epics on Tornado 2.2 or 2.2.1.

As long as you only have the versions of the MVME5100 that have an MPC750 CPU, you can actually run Tornado 2.0.2 on them - the difference is mainly that the T202 compiler doesn't support the altivec coprocessor found on the MPC7410. You have to do a little work on the Tornado 2.2 mv5100 BSP to back-port it (I think it's just the .s files that need fixing, drop INCLUDE_ALTIVEC from config.h and some Makefile changes), but we're running that setup quite happily here on several IOCs. I can probably let you have a patch file for the changes if you like - you'll have to have Tornado 2.2 installed to actually get the BSP to install, but then I just copied the target/config/mv5100 directory to our Tornado 2.0.2 tree and modified the assember sources to get it to build.

It occurs to me that we already had the mv2700 BSP installed in T202 which has the MPC750 same CPU - it's possible that the 2700 BSP might have installed some other CPU specific files which we're also using with the 5100, but I'm not sure of that.

HTH,

- Andrew
