Let me share this information with you which is a response
to a question I posed to Wind River about their
compiler version numbering scheme, i.e.
gcc version gcc-2.96 (2.96+) 19990621
(from ccppc -v)
Cheers,
Andy

Our GNU tool source bases were from different
architecture vendors at different time frames. In fact, there are 5
different source bases internally for all architectures (PowerPC, MIPS,
ARM, Pentium and others) that we support in Tornado 2.2. Originally. our
GNU source bases in Tornado 2.2 were originally come from RedHat
internal source bases that were never been released to the public.
Therefore, there is no way to compare the version number of the GNU
source bases in Tornado 2.2 and the ones in FSF.
Moreover, we had also added a lot of bug fixes to the source bases
which are not found in the public domain version of GNU.
Due to these different factors, we did not use the original gcc version
number in our products, however, we are planning to use the gcc version
number as seen in the public domain in the next major release of
Tornado. It probably would be gcc 3.2. or above and probably the same
source base would be used for all architectures that we are going to
support. So that this will avoid any confusion with the version number
in the near future.
