Hi Thomas,

I'm trying to build dm2k-2.5.3-source.tar.gz under Red Hat linux 9.0 and
EPICS 3.14.4 and am running into a number of problems which I am hoping you
can help with.  I've unzipped the file into my epics/extensions/src
directory and have run "make" without setting any environment variables
(that is, I'm trying to build using CA not CDEV.)

The first problem I run into is that the compilation of resourcePalette.c
fails because the symbol FLDNAME_SZ is not defined.  I notice that it is
defined in dm2kCdev.h but that this is not included into the compilation
when the environment variable DM2K_CDEV is not defined.  I have added the
definition of FLDNAME_SZ into dm2k.h and this worked.  Was this the correct
thing to do?

The second problem occurs later on where it tries to link in a library
named /usr/lib/libdld.1 when compiling and linking dm2k.  I'm hoping you
can tell me what this library is, where is comes from and if I need it.  Is
it an external piece of software that I need to install on my system?

After having encountered these problems, I noticed your comment in the
INSTALL file regarding Makefile.Unix and how it may not do what I'd expect.
I copied this file over Makefile.Host and tried again and ran into a number
of different errors regarding files not found in CONFIG_EXTENSIONS.

That's when I decided to give up.
