I do not have a drvSerial / drvASCII for Linux.

However, I wonder if you need to use the FieldPoint I/O
System from National Instrument???

I have used the FieldPoint I/O in combination with LabVIEW using
Kay Kasemir's ActiveX CA Server for EPICS.

>From my experience FieldPoint is not bad but there are other
distributed I/O systems on the market that are cheaper, better
configurable and have a wider range of I/O modules to choose from.
In particular if you are not interested in using LabVIEW as
your primary software application platform.

The Controls and Automation Group here in Los Alamos has
recently tested for the SNS Accelerator in Oakridge TN, USA the
I/O System from Beckhoff Automation http://www.beckhoff.com/.

After reviewing the test results we decided to use for our
applications the Fieldbus system with the EthernetTCP/IP module
that supports MobusTCP
http://www.beckhoff.com/english/busterm/Bk9000.htm

Check out the line of Bus Terminals that they have
http://www.beckhoff.com/english/busterm/default.htm.

Richard Dabney ([email protected]) wrote the EPICS driver.

Just a thought. Let me know if you need more info.

Subject: Serial driver for Linux

Hi all,

I plan to use a NI FieldPoint IO system with EPICS running on a LINUX PC. My
FieldPoint IOs will be connected with RS232 / RS485 interfaces.

I am looking for something equivalent to drvSerial / drvASCII on Linux. Has
somebody already done such development?

Many thanks in advance.
