I have now written a small program which provides a means to reproduce the
function of elfToBin on Linux - I run objdump -s on the bootrom_uncmp file,
then my program, objdumpToBin, reconstitutes a binary boot file from the
text output of objdump. The resulting boot file is identical to the one
produced by elfToBin on Solaris. Not very elegant, but it works.

Subject: Building VxWorks Boot Rom on Linux
Up to the present, we (the Diamond project) have built and installed the
boot rom on our MV2304 IOCs from a Solaris system, but our intended
development platform is Linux. I have already built a cross-compiler for
MV2304 on Linux using the downloads and instructions available on the EPICS
web site, and can generate the file bootrom_uncmp. My problem is the next
stage, which is achieved on Solaris using the program elfToBin.
In his presentation on cross-compilers on Linux subject at the Collaboration
Meeting last May at BESSY, Dave Thompson concluded "This utility (i.e. an
equivalent to elfToBin) needs to be written." Does such a utility exist
yet, or is anyone aware of a workaround?
Thanks
