Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Hi,
One of the detector groups wants to use a Weiner power supply, model
Floating Power Supply PL500-F8, connected via CAN bus. CAN bus is new
for us. I looked on the EPICS web pages and noted that support was
available for the Tew TIP810 CAN bus interface using the IP slot on an
MVME162 or MVME172. We use MVME2301 and MVME2304 boards. Has anyone
attempted to use the TIP810 on a PPC board? Any idea how hard this
might be to implement? The alternative is to use an EPICS supported
IPAC card. This would be the more expensive solution in terms of equipment.
Is the TIP810 the only EPICS support CAN bus interface?
Is a CAN bus controller that plugs directly into the VME bus a better
option?
The run from the CAN bus interface to the the power supply is about 100
feet. Will this distance have an impact on operations?
Thanks
Geoff
