John,

When you say you got 3.13.7 from the CVS repository, do you mean you did a cvs checkout or export giving the R3-13-7 release tag? If so that should be correct - I'm just checking the obvious thing here to start with.

In general I would always recommend using a packaged distribution unless you're a developer and going to want to commit changes back in - you can then be certain that you're getting the right version.
