We use the EPICS alarm handler to send email.
Of course it can be set up to do just about anything else.
One of our temperature alarm files looks like this:
$STATCOMMAND HIGH echo "IRCAM temperature exceeds 34K" | /usr/ucb/mail
-s "IRCAM temp. exceeds 34K" maren-ircam
$STATCOMMAND HIHI echo "IRCAM temperature exceeds 35K" | /usr/ucb/mail
-s "IRCAM temp. exceeds 35K" maren-ircam
where of course you can replace the "/usr/ucb/mail" command by
whatever you need.
Aloha,
Maren
