We're using Emulex 2500 (8 port) and 2516 (16 port). No problem
connecting from whatever we tried (VAXes speaking LAT included),
though sometimes taking a while to figure out how to connect to things
(currently fighting a Lakeshore 870).
You can connect any RS232 with a DB25 to the console port, but we
usually use the console port as another regular port once the
terminal server knows its IP address. Rack mounting was solved by
mounting them on a metal plate and rack mounting the metal plate
(we have some on the telescope, they have to stay in place when
the telescope moves).
The main problem with the Emulexes is that they're getting hard to
find.

Other than that we still have the odd leftover DECserver, but not
for EPICS connections (those hold up pretty well too).

Aloha,

Maren
