We've used 3.14.0beta1 to build an XCas-based CA server to run on linux
on a StrongARM chip here at the SNS Front-end project and I would like
to make some comments

1. The make system to support cross-compilation of all EPICS parts
works very well. This is a great improvement over the old build system
and is why we used 3.14 to build the server.

2. ca and cas seem reliable. Although it is termed a beta release, we
have no trouble to report with the functionality of these components,
even though there seems to be a lot on new code here. Note that we have
not tested large arrays here at the front end. One minor modification
to XCas code was necessary due to a slight change in the cas api.

3. The size of many of the libraries (libCom and libCa are good
examples.) seems to have increased substantially. iocCoreLib.munch
looks to be almost twice the size of 3.13.5 iocCore. I'm sure I've
missed some discussions of the merits of having ever-increasing amounts
of C++ in EPICS base-- what are the perceived trade-offs here?

    Carl
