What followed included several important thoughts, thought
not code. Is anybody out there not 110% busy but would have

Meanwhile, whoever needs the described behavior and feels
that a drive limit mode field fixes it for now:
You can always add a new record, a copy of the AO record that includes
the previously emailed diffs, without changing EPICS base.
