Jon,

This is a very nice suggestion. In fact, we were using VSystem (a
commercial product) prior to EPICS and edm was written to provide some of
the functionality provided by VDraw but not present in medm, dm2k & dm.
VDraw implemented this behavior for the meter widget and I have
already received a request to do the same by several members of the staff
here.

Another thing these widgets need is an indication of alarm range.

Anything you do along these lines will be appreciated.

Be aware that the edm widget developers documentation is a bit out of
date. If you decide to proceed, I will be happy to provide any assistance
and will take this opportunity to begin updating the documentation.

Also note that the edm architecture supports a "plug-in" mechanism for
widgets. This means you may copy the existing widgets and create entirely
new widgets in a separate library. Thus you may distribute these new
widgets for others to test without compromising the stability of their
current configuration (if there's a problem, they simple remove the
plug-in and restart edm). When you are satisfied with the performance and
stability, we can then replace the existing widgets with your enhanced ones.
