Hi Stephanie, hi CA Proxy Gateway users,
there's been quite a number of changes and bugfixes to the gateway code
since the release of the 1.2.0 version that you are using.
The suspicious count for active PVs sounds very much like a bug that I
fixed in Feb 2000 (gateServer.cc rev. 1.32), but that was _before_
release 1.2.0, so I'm not sure what happens there.
There was a memory leak connected to existTest queries - Joan Sage found
and fixed this. (This fix isn't even in the latest 1.3.0 release version.)
She experienced regular crashes before and none after that fix.
If you have CVS access to the APS repository, I would recommend getting
the up-to-date version of the code - which is not released, but as
stable as it never was before. If you don't have CVS access, I could
bundle and publish a new bugfix release.
Please keep in mind that the pattern matching changed between 1.2.0 and
1.3.0, so you will have to chnage the configuration files. (*Sigh*, I
know it's a pain. I know...)
I expect to start doing some major changes/additions to the CA Proxy
Gateway code very soon, so I didn't feel like publishing another release
so shortly before - but it actually might be a good idea to tag and wrap
another release before starting to change everything. What do you think?
...
Yes, VC actually _is_ a virtual channel. As long as you do not use PV
name aliases, the number of VCs will be the number of PVs. Opening a
second connection to a channel using a different (alias) name will
increase the number of VCs, but not the PV number.
Hope this helps,
Ralph
