I am working to interface just such a serial device and would like to know
where devNode and drvNode can be found.

Steve,
drvSerial is commonly used with drvAscii/devAscii layer that
supports a fairly generic command and response system. An up to date
version can be obtained from Allan Honey at Keck
([email protected]). drvSerial itself provides device
independent support for (named) serial devices.
The devNode/devNode package is a simple layer that uses drvSerial.
It is not nearly as robust as drvAscii/devAscii, although does
handle the case of multiple response delimiters, which drvAscii
does not. Unless you have a very strange device (like the legacy
control system we were talking to for the CFHT application)
I'd recommend use of drvAscii instead.
The tyGsOctal software does not _require_ use of drvNode, or even
drvSerial for that matter.
