The easiest solution is to get a 24-bit display. It is only a
problem with 8-bit displays, which are limited to 256 colors at once.
If you start MEDM first, it will get the color table entries
instead of anything started later.
I don't believe you can do anything with .Xdefaults or
.Xresources.
The colors are in siteSpecific.h. You can change them if you
like. Netscape uses a standard RGB color table. (See an X manual.)
If you make MEDM use colors from that table, you won't conflict with
Netscape and several other programs. If you already have a lot of
screens, you won't want to do this, however. You can also specify a
different color table in any ADL file (see the manual), and the
colors, default or otherwise, are also in the ADL file.
Finally, you can run MEDM with -cmap, which will cause it to use
its own private color table. Other colors may not be right when the
focus is in MEDM, however. You can also make Netscape and others use
a private color table. With Netscape the option is -install.
