Jinhu,

  I should have replied sooner --sorry.  I have some C/C++ 
code which implements "caget" within matlab.  It is a "mex"
file, which is basically a shared object file which matlab
loads at run-time.  You're welcome to my code; there's just
one problem: it doesn't work!  I haven't had time to track
down why, but for some reason the CA client code fails on
the call to socket(), leaving errno = NO_ERROR.

  I contacted matlab support, but they were unable to provide
any assistance.  Because it was an unimportant side-project, 
I shelved it.  If you would like to start with this code,
you are welcome --it may even work just fine on some platform
other than HP-UX.
