I've experienced similar problems with 10/100 switches and older 10
mb/s ethernet interfaces. It's apparently a problem in negotiating the
link characteristics between the 2. Try forcing (if you can, I'm not
familiar with that switch) the port to 10 mb/s and 1/2 duplex on the
switch, and see if the problem gets better.
