John,

unfortunately I have to say that right now the CA Gateway is in a state,
which is ... transient.

I don't know what the "3/8 distribution of the extensions" is.
Officially there is no extensions distribution, as all the tools which
used to be in there are unbundled now.

I don't know which version of the CA Gateway you are trying to compile.

Note that there has been a ... disadvantageous development which led to
the current situation that the CA Gateway only compiles with a patched
version of base that is not under CVS control. I ran into my head into
different walls when trying to make some improvements to the Gateway.
Several people are helping now with getting this back on the track.

The current version of the CA Gateway still contains a few bugs. It is
still under development, so there's neither real documentation nor
proper support. It is known to compile under Solaris and HPUX (using the
patched base version), as far as I know it has never been compiled under
Linux.

If you still want to join the club (and are not afraid of getting your
nose hurt) ... welcome.

But if you are primarily interested in _using_ the CA Gateway, I would
suggest getting the Solaris executable. Simply waiting for the Linux
version might do the job. (I.e. if you have enough time...)

If you really want to know the gory details, Marty Kraimer or Ken Evans
might want to share this exquisite knowledge.

This flag is related to the patched base version and throws errors if
used with a regular base.

This seems to be related to compiling under Linux. I don't have any clue
about this.

Hope this helps, anyway....
