Looks like the alarm handler causes some problems on the ioc as well - too
many opened files (my programs don't open files on the ioc). It too
reports invalid channels on the Sun that aren't invalid unless it's running.
I notice that the StripTool and the alh report the "string" type of records
as being invalid. Those used on the archiver screen - file name, date and
size. Which we know aren't invalid because they aren't "white". Unless
they are being added to these tools to be monitored and they are invalid
types for the tools. I haven't look in the setup files, but this could be
one of the problems.
