Tony,
We recently used EPICS drivers (developed elsewhere) to interface three
PLCs:
  a) Allen Bradley PLC5/40E,
  b) Gould/Modicon 984 model 780,
  c) GE Series Six.

PLC (a) uses a DCM module in the AB over a serial line to a VME scanner
module. The AB driver is maintained by ANL.
PLC (b) and (c) use the Modbus protocol, over RS-232. The Modbus driver is
maintained by LANL.

Our IOC is a Motorola MVME-177.
