APS combines the functionality of the Motorola transition module with the
remote reset circuitry to produce a custom VME board for each of our CPU
types. We don't have to buy or mount those pesky MVME712s, and we get to
include other useful things like fibre-optic RS232 transcievers, a
temperature monitor and PSU voltage checking on the same card. Special
circuitry in the console serial input line looks for a particular sequence
of control characters typed within a short time period, and when a match
is found it pulses the VME reset line.
All our console ports are connected to terminal servers.
