Dear all,

after several positive replies to my previous mail and intensive
discussions with Bob and Daniele Bulfone (chairman of ICALEPCS'99) we
decided to hold an EPICS workshop before ICALEPCS'99.
The fact that two weeks ago we had already 30 people signed in for the
workshop showed us that the there's a real interest in it.

For the 2nd conference announcement the following will be published:

>
> EPICS workshop
>
> Before the conference a two days EPICS workshop will be held on the
> Thursday Sept. 30 and Friday Oct. 1st in the conference center.
> EPICS - the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System's
> software tool kit is used in more than 100 installations all over the
> world. Following the tradition of holding an EPICS workshop in
> conjunction with ICALEPCS it will be possible for newcomers to learn
> about EPICS and to get to know many of the members of the EPICS
> collaboration. For EPICS users it will be a chance to discuss with the
> developers to give input for new developments and following the idea of
> the collaboration to contribute to the overall success.
>
> The two days will focus on the following subjects (some of them still
> have to be confirmed):
> First day:
> Introduction into EPICS and status reports from several installations.
> New developments creating EPICS databases from Oracle and new sequencing
> tools.
>
> 2nd Day:
> Support for new hardware.
> EPICS on Linux and Windows-NT.
> Porting EPICS core to other operating systems.
> News from channel access.
> New implementations in Java.
>
> Looking forward to discuss with you and to share your ideas within the
> collaboration.

> Chairman of the EPICS workshop

As you can imagine we still need people to fill in.
And I am thinking of the following to help us:

Oracle: BESSY, KEK, SLAC, DESY, SLS

Sequencer:	SLS, SLAC, Joseph Perlas

Hardware:	SLS, KEK (experience with PPC) other

Linux: Markus Janousch SLS ?

Windows-NT:	Kay Kasemir LANL

Java: Gary Cooper LANL, Eric Boucher ANL

EPICS on new OPS: Marty Kraimer

news from Channel Access: Jeff Hill

... I hope you agree!?

Since the agenda is still open - feel free for any comments or
proposals!

Regards
Matthias

p.s.
After this mail I will be off until 14th of August and will contact you
again soon after.
Please do not hesitate to send your comments - my mail account is open
and I will try to read mail from time to time
