If you can convince your users to each use individual private accounts to
run the control system (never easy) then they will be forced to type in
a password when they log in and access security policy will be uniformly
applied to all client side tools, and not just to the occasional tools
with built in add hock security features. An additional benefit of this is
that
you can choose that only operators with knowledge of a particular subsystem
will be granted write access to specialized parameters which optimize that
subsystem.
