C++ development on IRIX hosts |

Dear all,
I'm working with the following versions of IRIX and native compilers and I
am having problems with templates. The link phase fails if -DEXPL_TEMPL is
not defined. With the -DEXPL_TEMPL flag defined, standard EPICS C++ code
such as fdManager.cc fail to compile with errors like:
../fdManager.cc, line 93: error(3531): expected a "<"
template class resTable <fdReg, fdRegID>;
^
The versions are: O/S: Irix 5.3, native C++: 4.0, native C: 3.19.
Three questions:
1) Do C++ templates work at all with this combination of versions?
2) If not, what are the versions I need to upgrade to?
3) Or should I just install the GNU compilers?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Aloha,
Peregrine
