While we're on the subject, us too:

We had a wavefront sensing system (don't ask me, it's got to do with
image quality) operating on a PC for a number of years. Then the PC
died. As we already have 2 systems in operation that use a similar
(or the same) camera controller, we plugged together software pieces
of the two, largely unchanged (this is also a successful exercise in 
software reuse), and got the new system running in a week elapsed 
time (from when the controller arrived, in box, Nick Rees and myself
working on it part time.).
