It would also be nice to get a 'done' event corresponding to a 'put'
without hanging at the 'put' call.  This effect can be accomplished in
a database, of course, but it's a pain to have to put an explicit 'busy'
PV in the database, make sure it's initialized correctly, attach an event
flag to it, set it before the put, and do completion processing when the
database resets it.  Yuck.  Plus, if it's somebody else's database, you might
not be able to add the PV for several months--and then you have to be nice
to them for a while.  Really a bad situation all around.
