We don't use the Greenspring cards, but ran into a similar problem
when we first started connecting serial line devices. We found that
we couldn't talk to the device in question directly from a dumb
terminal because one of the characteristics the device wanted couldn't
be set on the terminal. Our solution was to go through a terminal
server right away (with the combination of drvAscii/drvSerial/tnetDev
drivers I'm sure I have described here before). This works very well
for us, and it doesn't have the limit on the number of serial lines
that the Greenspring boards have. (If you have more devices, just
connect another terminal server ...)
Just another way out ...
