Subject: StripTool 2.3 available

A new version of StripTool is available at:

  ftp://ftp.jlab.org/pub/epics/stripTool (file is StripTool-2-3.tgz).

New features:

  - Color manager

    (a) Robust support for all X visuals and color depths,
excluding DirectColor. ("Robust" --> as far as I
        can tell :)

    (b) Does not allocate any new colors from the server;
performs color-match on those allocated sharable by
other apps to find best substitute. This leaves more
color cells available for other apps, and if a suitable
match is not found, one may be created (see next item).

    (c) New color dialog presents palette and controls for
allocating/freeing color cells, and defining their
        rgb values.

  - Interface

    (a) Drag and drop support --drag a signal name from any
"drag source" (e.g. medm) and drop it into the graph
        window to begin plotting.

    (b) Panning/zooming buttons to allow browsing through
buffered data (beware with zoom! --don't use it to
create too large a time range because it currently
increases the buffer size correspondingly. I aim to
        fix this pretty soon.

    (c) More natural y-axis tic marks.

  - Internal

    (a) Uses X's file descriptor selection mechanism rather
than fdmgr: provides more efficient handling of X
events, and allows StripTool to be compiled independently
of EPICS (e.g., with pure CDEV).

    (b) Updated configuration code to allow more easily adding
configurable parameters in the future. (replaced 32
bit word with a bit vector)

    (c) Fixed some bugs

Please try it out, if you like, and let me know if you have any
problems. Also, there are many things on the to-do list; let me
know if you have any suggestions or ideas to add.

  Thanks,

Chris
