A couple of months ago there were some tech-talk messages about
devVXStats, which is a device support modules that reports cpu usage,
memory usage, and tcp connections.

The device support was actually determining file descriptor usage. I
have made changes so that it is clear that it reports fd usage NOT tcp
connections. In addition it now reports % fd usage, i.e. the percent of
maximum file descriptors being used.

The cpu usage was determined by using spy. This had two problems: 1) spy
could not be used from the vxWorks console without problems. 2) It was
looking into task control blocks belonging to vxWorks. This does not
seem like a good idea. Johnny Tang and Andy Foster suggested measuring
cpu usage via a background task running at lowest priority. I like this
idea.

I have made a new version of devVXStats available via anonymous ftp.

ftp aps.anl.gov

cd pub
cd mrk
get devVXStats.c

I would like some volunteers to try this new version before the next
release of base. Any volunteers? If you try it please give me some
feedback.
