If we're talking about the same archiver, there is an open.dat file
in your arReq directory. Mine looks like this:

ircam
water

(I.e. it is an ASCII file that contains the names of your .req files)

I'm running AR_cmd, started with
AR_cmd server & 
and that reads the file automatically.
