Thanks to everybody who responded, especially Janet.
While experimenting a bit with Mohan's perl script,
it was a $SEVRCOMMAND line added to the alh config
file that just a few minutes ago sent me email.

Follow-up question:
The channel I'm most interested in is usually constant
(i.e. unless something breaks). I tried triggering an alarm
by setting the .HIGH value below the current value,
expecting an alarm to show up, but it didn't.
Is this expected bahavior?
