Thanks to those who replied to my question, to which Marty replied:
> array and string scalar values are not queued...

I think it's worth pointing out that camonitor always requests
DBR_TIME_STRING and so will, I believe, exhibit this behavior for all
channels (I have certainly seen it for bi/bo/mbbi/mbbo etc). cau, on the
other hand, always requests the native TIME type and, for enumerated types,
substitutes the string on the client side. There's a lesson here for
us!
